OUR Story
Fearless Spaces was founded by Coniqua Johnson-Reed, a strategist and consultant shaped by a lifetime of navigating change, building community, and challenging broken systems. Raised in a constantly moving family, she found her voice early through advocacy and spoken word, later founding a safe space for BIPOC creatives in college.
With firsthand experience across government, nonprofit, and arts sectors, and deep disillusionment with how often they fail those they aim to serve; Coniqua began consulting to create what didn’t yet exist: values-driven, equitable infrastructure rooted in care.
Fearless Spaces exists to help organizations become safer, braver, and more just, not just in theory, but in practice.
Meet the Founder
Coniqua Johnson-Reed, M.S.
Coniqua Johnson-Reed is a strategist, facilitator, and the founder of Fearless Spaces Consulting, where she helps mission-driven organizations become more equitable, intentional, and impactful. Raised in Durham, NC in a family that moved often, she learned early to navigate change and hold space for others.
Her advocacy began in high school through Planned Parenthood NYC and NYCLU, and continued through college, where she founded WordPlay, a spoken word collective and led successful campaigns for racial equity and student voice. After earning a Master’s in Nonprofit Management, she worked across government, nonprofit, and arts sectors, experiencing firsthand how often these systems fail to live up to their missions.
Disillusioned but determined, she launched Fearless Spaces to build what she couldn’t find: values-driven infrastructure rooted in care, justice, and sustainability. Coniqua has since worked with institutions like Mount Sinai and the Institute of Black Imagination, helping leaders turn equity goals into daily practice.
Her work is personal, strategic, and always in service of creating spaces where people and organizations can grow with integrity.
